Fuji Shibazakura Festival (富士芝桜まつり) is held every year and has welcomed over 500,000 people last year. It’s one of the most exciting events in Japan in spring, displaying the breathtaking scenery with 500,000 pink moss against the backdrop of Mt Fuji!

Shibazakura (pink moss or phlox moss in English) is one of the most popular spring flowers in Japan. The site is Fuji Motosuko Resort, which is located 3 km away from Lake Motosuko within Fuji Five Lakes (Fujigoko) site. Visitors enjoy an amazing contrast of pink flowers and the blue sky and mountain.

500,000 pink moss flowers are planted in a vast land of 2.3 ha on the base of Mt.Fuji. At the festival, 5 different colours of pink moss create colourful pink carpets in various designs.

During the festival, there will be a food festival set in the site, offering delicious local street food and drinks.

The festival is held for one month and a half from mid April, yet the most recommended time for viewing is early to mid May when the flower is in full bloom. As the festival is very popular and crowded at the period, an early time visit is highly recommended if you wish to take pictures without crowds.
