It’s a special cafe that collaborates with popular characters, games, movies, etc, and serves super cute decorated themed food and drinks as well as offering special merchandise collection. Especially in Tokyo, there are various kinds of character cafes available such as Pokemon, Snoopy, etc which are extremely popular.

Most of character cafes in Japan are open for limited time only to promote special events, newly released movies, games, etc, however, there are several character cafes that open permanently, and visitors can visit there and enjoy the special character menu anytime of the year. 1. Pokemon Cafe

Pokemon Cafe is located at Pokemon Center Tokyo DX & Pokemon Cafe (ポケモンセンタートウキョーDX & ポケモンカフェ), 5F the East Building of Nihonbashi Takashimaya department store, Tokyo. Super cute Pokemon character themed food and drinks are available including Pikachu and Eevee, as well as the seasonal menu available only for a limited time of the year. Some of merchandise are only sold at Pokemon Cafe. The cafe is reservation only, so make to make an online booking in advance!

Cinnamoroll Cafe (シナモロールカフェ) is a character cafe collaborating with the popular Sanrio character, Cinnamoroll. Colourful, photo-worthy and super cute Cinnamoroll themed food and drinks are served, and also seasonal limited menu is available through the year such as for summer, Halloween and Christmas. Pompompurin Cafe (ポムポムプリンカフェ) features the popular and adorable Sanrio character, Pompompurin. Currently, there are 4 themed cafe in total across the country: Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya and Osaka. 4. SANRIO CAFE

SANRIO CAFE (サンリオカフェ), the long-awaited, permanent SANRIO theme cafe has finally opened in Tokyo in 2020, offering exclusive menu in collaboration with adorable SANRIO characters including Hello Kitty, Gudetama, My Melody, Little Twin Stars, Pompompurin and more. Besides an eating space, the cafe also has a wagon corner for takeaway with handy takeaway dishes. The cafe’s original merchandise is also sold exclusively there.

Peanuts characters (Snoopy and friends) are one of the most beloved characters of all time, and their exclusive cafe is located by Meguro River (near Shibuya area), Tokyo. The world’s first “permanent” KIRBY theme cafe, KIRBY CAFE TOKYO (カービィカフェ TOKYO) opened on 4F of Tokyo Solamachi next to Tokyo Skytree in December 2019. 7. Chiikawa Restaurant

The first permanent restaurant of Chiikawa, a Japanese manga series written by Nagano and serialized online via Twitter since 2020, has opened in Ikebukuro Parco in late 2023. With the concept of “Family Restaurant” and the hope that people of all age can enjoy, the Chiikawa Restaurant (ちいかわレストラン) offers a menu that guests can immerse into the Chiikawa world. In addition to the grand menu, the cafe also serves some limited-time items including popular dishes and drinks served in the temporary Chiikawa Cafe from the past as well as Christmas desserts. Sazae san’s very own themed cafe, Lien de SAZAESAN (リアン・ドゥ・サザエさん) has opened in Sakura Shinmachi, Setagaya area, Tokyo in 2017. The cozy cafe serves some themed pastry and drink menu.
