Halloween has become a huge thing in Japan in the last decade, and everyone wants to party real hard. Some Halloween street parades take places in several locations in Tokyo, usually on/around 31 October, and some areas expect over 10,000 participants dressed in their Halloween costumes!! 1. Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Festival

How can Otaku (geek) culture be related to Halloween? You will find out at this most unique Japanese Halloween event.  Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Festival (池袋ハロウィンコスプレフェス) started in 2014 and now it’s a perfect opportunity for over 10,000 cosplayers to dress in their favourite anime, game and manga characters openly.

2. Disney Halloween

Tokyo Disney Resort holds themed events for every occasion of the year and Halloween is not an exception. This must be a fun place to be if you dress in your favourite Disney character costume and feel like being a real character. There are also a Halloween themed parade and a show during this period at both Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea.

3. Sanrio Puroland

Sanrio Puroland hosts an annual Halloween event “Puro Halloween” with various Halloween celebrations taking place at the park in day and night. You will be welcomed by adorable Sanrio characters dressed in the limited-edition Halloween costumes including Hello Kitty, My Melody, Kuromi, Pompompurin and Cinnamoroll. The park offers various contents with Halloween theme such as parade, show, greeting and photo spot for a limited time. There will be also special food menu at park’s restaurants and cafes as well as limited merchandise sold at the stores.

5. Tokyo Tower

A seasonal event “TOKYO TOWER CITY LIGHT FANTASIA ～Halloween party 2024～” will be held at the main deck of the observatory of Tokyo Tower, turning the space into a spooky and mysterious Halloween theme. It features projection mapping, starting with a tranquil autumn scene with autumn leaves and pampas grass, then changes to a Halloween party theme with ghosts, witches, bats and jack-o-lanterns coming up to scare the guests.

6. Roppongi Hills Halloween

Roppongi Hills Halloween is a kid-friendly Halloween event held at Roppongi Hills, featuring various Halloween related contents for 2 days. In 2023, the popular Halloween parade will be held for the first time in 4 years. Families with children under 12 year-old can join the parade with Halloween costumes and stroll down the street with a brass band. At the end of the parade, there are little treats waiting for children!

7. Spoil Yourself with Starbucks Japan Halloween Treats

Starbucks Japan releases seasonal limited edition beverage and merchandise through the year including in Halloween season. In 2023, they are releasing the Halloween beverage “Booooo Frappuccino” for a limited time, featuring an unique and spooky look with a flavour of pumpkin. The 2023 Halloween merchandise collection includes a range of drinkware such as mug, tumbler and stainless bottle with the cute Halloween themed designs with cats and ghost motif. 8. Shibuya (Unofficial Event)

Shibuya Halloween is an unofficial event, yet draws a large crowds every year. Somehow, Shibuya and Halloween become intimate in past years and turned into some kind of tourist attraction. Tons of people gather around Shibuya Scramble Crossing in unique Halloween costumes and make a big street party till morning. (Accordingly, there were about 1 million people there a couple of years ago!!) If you wish to see chaotic Japanese Halloween, this could be an interesting attraction.

9. Kawasaki Halloween <<Cancelled>>

One of biggest and most energetic Halloween events annually held in Japan, Kawasaki Halloween is hels annually (it’s not technically in Tokyo, but worth mentioning!). The event’s program includes a Halloween parade, live music performances, a costume contest and a dance music event at night. A kids parade is also held one day before the main parade.

Note: In 2021 summer, Kawasaki Halloween has announced the end of the event after 24 years.
